As part of conversations around World Suicide Prevention Day, Infiheal psychologists Lavleen Kaur and Eity Maheshwari were invited by Sanskriti University, Mathura, to facilitate a Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Workshop for students. It is the kind of session that does not wait for things to reach a crisis point, which is precisely why it matters.

Why This Conversation Cannot Wait

World Suicide Prevention Day, observed on 10 September each year, is a reminder that the conversations that save lives rarely happen in the moments of acute crisis. They happen earlier, in the small exchanges where someone feels safe enough to say that they are struggling, and someone else feels equipped enough to really listen. Workshops like this one exist to build exactly that capacity, in the people who are most likely to be in those moments with someone who needs help.

Young people in university settings are navigating a particularly demanding set of pressures: academic expectations, social transitions, career uncertainty, and the often unspoken weight of mental health challenges that many are experiencing for the first time without a clear language to describe them. Creating a dedicated space for these conversations, during orientation weeks, awareness days, or even mid-semester, sends a clear message that mental health is something worth taking seriously before things reach a breaking point.

What the Workshop Covered

The session brought students together for an honest and structured conversation around suicide prevention. Topics included recognising warning signs and symptoms, understanding how to respond when someone appears to be struggling, and why seeking support early, before a situation escalates, is both possible and important. Through interactive activities and open conversation, the workshop moved students beyond passive awareness and toward a more active understanding of how they can notice, listen, and support someone in their own circle who may need help.

Students were also introduced to Healo, Infiheal's AI mental health companion, as an accessible support tool designed to complement human care and help people take a first step toward seeking support without judgment or friction.

The workshop was conducted with the support of Monika Abrol and Dr. Renu Kadian, and Infiheal is grateful to Sanskriti University for creating the space and the intent for a session like this to happen.

Building a Culture, Not Just Awareness

Suicide prevention is not only about knowing the warning signs. That is necessary, but not sufficient. What makes the difference over time is culture: whether people in a given environment feel genuinely safe enough to speak about what they are carrying, whether those around them feel equipped enough to listen without panic or judgment, and whether seeking help feels like a normal, unremarkable part of taking care of oneself rather than an admission of failure.

That culture does not emerge from a single workshop. It is built through many conversations, consistently, across many rooms, over time. For Infiheal, every session like this one is a step toward that larger mission: making mental health awareness and support more accessible for young people, in the communities and institutions where they actually live and study.

Because the conversations that matter most are the ones that happen before anyone is in crisis. And those conversations need a place to begin.
